Zen Tales #1
Friday, May 16th, 2008 by NestorHa, fooled ya, not a sketch. There are a bunch of these Zen Tales so I guess I’ll mix them up with the sketches.
Jet Man - a Swiss dude decided to strap some jet powered wings on his back and take to the skies. This man is a professional (Airline and ex fighter jet pilot) so don’t try this at home, kids!
Pity Dave Stevens, the creator of Rocketeer died a few months ago, he sure would’ve liked to see a real life rocketeer flying through the skies.

If you’re wondering why the guy goes by the name Fusion Man in his website instead of jet man, well he seems to have some kind of sponsorship deal with a watch company (Hublot) so he’s shiling their fusion wristwatch. Hey, good for him. That thing can’t be cheap to run.

And the people did comment. It was a different time, a kinder time….

Woah, I’m first!
Zen Koans, eh? Don’t think I’ve heard many past the “sound of one hand clapping.” Anyhoo, If that photo of the roach you caught is life-size, it’s comperable to the ones found in Japan. Right tasty, they are…

I’ve tried that on chicks before, but they always slice me before I can get to the lesson part.

El Hombre feels that it’s all verra Zen.

…
This is why Drill Sargents, Zen Masters, and School Teachers all find themselves griped by the urgh to beat people over the head with a stick.
Sometimes you need these young people to settle down and pay attention to you and all they want to do is be silly.

El Hombre believes that if real life was like Great Teacher Onizuka, it would be a lot more fun.

I get it!
…I think.
Is this supposed to be philosophical? *brain hurts*
SoS | Email | Homepage | 12.28.03 - 12:00 pm | #
El Hombre feels the need to explain;
The philosophy is that anger will only lead to hell, whereas calmness/tranquility will lead to heaven.

My great grandad was in the war, and he told of that “Christmas truce”. Died before I was born, so I’ve only heard his stories second hand. (I’m named after him)
Like the time he was looking for new boots because the standard issue were crap. He found some, but they were full of foot.
Also got bayonetted through the neck and lived. Or shot. He didn’t remember the specifics.
Walking through a French village, turned a corner and found himself face to face with a Jerry. He fired first. Watched him die.
Also said that the real war took place when the soldiers came back and discovered what their girlfriends had been up to in the meantime.

You know, he could have said “Yes” and not been an asswipe about it. I think this guy has his path marked for hell already.

So when can we buy a collection of these clever little scribbles in an independant market with no middleman so as to keep you from the sweet evil taste of selling out, hmm?

“You think, you’re very clever, don’t you?”
“I have my moments”

El Hombre would now like to know if Hyung refers to his Handphone as a Handphone or a Cellphone.
El Hombre | Email | Homepage | 12.29.03 - 3:57 am | #
I’m guessing he doesn’t have one. Hyung is a Zen Luddite
Nestor | Email | Homepage | 12.29.03 - 4:09 am | #
haha wow thats hilarious! =P

El Hombre would also like to complement Hyung on his link-pickin’ abilities, because I now enjoy American Animetion.
Especially Mobile Suit Gundam Cola.
El Hombre | Email | Homepage | 12.29.03 - 1:12 pm | #
I was showing a friend the comic, because he’s an awful nerd who only reads user friendly clones and needs to widen his horizons. He liked the art (But that’s hardly a compliment considering his usual reads).
Remarked on the “powered by blogger” thing and asked if the site has a “rss feed”.
Apparently with one of those we can find out whenever you update automatically, or something. So you should get one. Or not.

Omigosh! Was this inspired by the trade paperback ‘Zen Comix’, a collection of strips based on old zen koans published by some Dutch woman? I have both volumes- they’re so awesome ! I picked them up at a used book drive in Indonesia. I love how her art style is so simple. But I love yours too of course! (:lurker

I like these Zen Tales… One-hits are probably a good thing …I still wonder about that Simpsons-looking character at the bottom-left of the page.
