Further adventures in recreational cuisine

I liked Tang when I was a kid.

In hindsight, I guess I was pretty bourgeois.

Hey, anyone bought a kindle yet? It’s the new e-book reader from amazon. At 400$ I personally thought it was a bit of a white elephant, which is why I didn’t try to foist it on you guys, but I read on dreamhost’s* blog that it actually has a permanent, always available cellphone style free internet connection! Which actually sounds kind of nifty. They’re not available in Europe for a while yet, so I guess it’s a yanks only thing for the time being.

*This being the same dreamhost that hosts this site, who don’t make at all a bad choice of a host for a small to medium site and if you use promo code kimchi you get 20$ off. Just sayin’

Webcomics preorder time! There are alot of webcomics going to print lately, and you can get in on the act by buying them. You guys don’t actually buy a lot of comics through these amazon links, but I am ever optimistic, plus these ones are good! And you can read them online to check if you like them first. Or instead. (See I knew there was a flaw there somewhere)

Okay this one isn’t a webcomic, but it’s a preorder. It’s webcomic-ish. Isn’t it?

Funny. When we were kids, we used to put stick dry spaghetti ’sticks’ into Crest tubes, then light the Crest on fire over the gas stove. They would spark like crazy… We called them ’sparklers’, even though you had to hold them in the flame to get the sparking effect. Hey, we were kids!

And I can’t say that I ever had margarine sandwiches, but my favorite was peanut butter and marshmallow fluff sandwiches… MMmmmmm. But, sadly, you can never go back.

I come back from a week of hiking in the mountains and I find a wacky orgy has transpired without me, Kim is now a cute girl with an over abundance of plugs and his youthful self will eventually be driving his younger brother to the looney bin (or the hospital to get his stomach pumped). Sheer wackiness, I tells ya!

PLUS, TOP FIVE ALTERNATE USES FOR GOVENMENT CHEESE:

    5. A hammer for nail you want to put in lead.

    4. Sinking the TITANIC.

    3. A murder weapon you can easily clean and hide.

    2. A bodyguard.

(*grins*) You can have it, with my blessing. I’ll even sign the papers. But I do want an acknowledgement, that’d be nice.

And to add to the ongoing ‘My food can beat your food from childhood’ debate:

Fluffernutters!! Peanut Butter (crunchy, in my case) and Marshmallow Fluff. But then again, I grew up in Illinois, so it just could be a Midwestern thing…

    Fferret | Email | Homepage | 07.24.03 - 1:37 pm | #

I was under the impression that fluff was a Northeast thing. http://www.marshmallowfluff.com/

    Joe | Email | Homepage | 07.24.03 - 1:54 pm | #

hmmmmm, weird food huh? I used to eat BBQ sauce and pickle sandwhichs and quesadias that I would put in the microwave for so long that the cheese would become hard and crunchy. I loved it!

    Jarys | Email | Homepage | 07.24.03 - 2:09 pm | #

Peanut butter, cucumber and cheese (sadly, not American - we have Canadian cheddar, which is not so evil) sandwiches were a staple of my childhood diet, as well as Spagetti-os with cut up hot dogs and the infamous Kraft Dinner. The stuff that tapeworms are made of, i tells ya.

Oh, and pixie sticks. Mixed into cheap, imitation Tang. Best eaten with Klik, the imitation Spam.

    Chakka | Email | Homepage | 07.24.03 - 3:00 pm | #

I always just had peanut butter sandiwches. That’s all…just straight pb. Hey, I was lazy and mom was a drunkard, you do the math…

My brother in law swears by pickles with mustard wrapped in bread, like some sort of hideous pickled hot dog of death…

    What exactly is Government Cheese?
Is it like those processed cheese kraft singles? Some sort of horrible mock cheese?

    Clueless in Toronto | Email | Homepage | 07.24.03 - 4:58 pm | #

It’s a big block of uncut Cheddar wrapped in wax paper given out to poor people, immigrants, elderly, welfare cases… etc.

I don’t think they do that anymore… prolly just cut food stamps or something…

You mean your government gives you cheese?! Like, for free?! o__O

Wow. And the streets are paved in gold indeed…

Also, on a semirelated note, butter and margarine are the same right? Heh, I didn’t knew it was some kind of universal thing, those kinda sandwiches… Also, cajeta sandwiches. Yeah baby!

Government cheese being too unruly? Beat that sucka into submission with some hot sauce! Good on everything from tuna fish sandwiches to fruit. Sure your friends may say that your stomach is going to rot out, but really, what do they know?

Velveeta cheese are sueing underground cartoonist D.B. Velveeda. For shame! You contribute to a few issues of “Horny Biker Slut” and suddenly you’re the Antichrist! At least I think that’s how he got the job. But they will never defeat Superman Cheese!
