Stuff that happened during summer vacation
Sunday, February 24th, 2008 by NestorAutobio comics! Those are a great way to win artsy prizes, I hear.
Worked for Marjane Satrapi, then again I guess growing up in Tehran is more interesting than the usual garden variety growing up story
The Complete Persepolis: Now a Major Motion Picture
I gave two copies of Persepolis as presents during Christmas. It reads like a less depressing Maus (On account of there not being nearly as much genocide in it)
Maus I: A Survivor’s Tale: My Father Bleeds History
Ghastly has started a new comic, using that revolutionary concept known as “not drawing anything new, ever” pioneered by Dinosaur Comics, it’s called Blog is hell. It’s really quite remarkable how much he’s improved in his artwork from the eye bleeding early days of ghastlycomic
If you want even more Ghastly, here he is in the flesh playing a contraption he made out of spare car parts
I’m sure I’ve already mentioned, but Life on Forbez
is updating again, I mean, really! We can all draw hope from this (Hah, suckers)They’ve finally figured out what the Antikythera mechanism is for, apparently it was some sort of
eclipse prediction computer from the first century BC. Just wait until Neal Stephenson hears about this, he’ll have a 1000 page-per-book trilogy about computer hacker Greeks before you can say boo.
I’ve been reading Quicksilver, which is sort of like Cryptonomicon in the renaissance, but I have to admit it was hard to get into it, although it really picks up about halfway through.
Keurig B40 Elite brewer, black.
Mm, cofee. I don’t have any way to make it where I am now, and I have to admit I miss it on occasion. Still, Tea fills the gap quite nicely, I’ve recently become addicted to Darjeeling tea. It’s yummy.

I prefer my caffeine cold. Folk think this is a bit strange to be drinking a Diet Coke on a mid-winter’s morning. You don’t think I’m weird, do you?
Fferret | Email | Homepage | 07.23.03 - 8:36 am | #
DIET coke? Very very weird, dude.
Crowley | Email | Homepage | 07.23.03 - 8:45 am | #
Diet anything is pure concentrated evil. Give me hot hot coffee any day of the week.
A similar thing happened to me and my sister when we were little, and my Dad got his first espresso machine.
Good times.

It was a road trip with my folks when I was twelve that got me hooked - every time they’d stop at a donut shop, they’d get me a large with double sugar and cream. It was the beginning of what would become an eight cup a day habit in High School. I don’t think I slept for five or six years…

good times … good times.
I love the HaidaBucks story!
Ah, coffee. A so much better theme than anal plugs.

Oh man, that was funny! Actually one of the kids I’m teaching right now once managed to drink around half a cup of coffee from the lil’ coffee machine we have in the room.
Never seen someone draw and jump at the same time.
Afterwards, no more coffee machine -or sugar dispenser- in that room.
>I prefer my caffeine cold.
I usually alternate between a sip of regular coke and a sip of coffee. Get’s the old morning haze right away!

Gets it, tackles it, kicks the shit out of it, and tosses it on the ashheap of history!
Coke and coffee? Getting an early start on that heart attack, hmm?

Number 0035
Most people don’t understand my atitude to caffine. I avoid it after 3pm unless I need to stay up. That way it hits me harder when I need it.
It’s kind of like being a tetotaler, so that you can get drunk quicker when you do drink.

>Number 0035
The url’s been fixed.
Actual #0035 was to be a colored FLCL sketch.

But was too late, though the number designation’s still there.
>What did your mom do when she figured it out?
I think I was always like that, so it wasn’t much of a change from normal behavior.

Erm… Who ARE you, Nestor? You’ve been running this site for a year+ (?) now. I assumed you are Hyung’s friend pushing stuff we don’t need through the text box under the reposted strips. Who are you? Will you have a comic avatar like Hyung has? I want to see you in the comic, it’d be hilarious.
February 24th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
I actually had an avatar from that strip, but it seems to be missing, maybe the avatar plugin died with the last wordpres upgrade or something.
And as for the amazon ads, seems to be the only think that works. You guys have bought over 7000 dollars worth of amazon swag, unfortunately at 4-6% commission that doesn’t amount to a hill of beans, but I gotta keep trying.
Checked, I’d turned off the avatar plugin during the last upgrade. Back now, it helps because most people can’t tell if it’s me or Hyung talking despite the fact I can spell “then” and “than” correctly

Twinings Darjeeling is awesome. I love it.
Did you know Twinings has a blog? Twinings Tea Blog
February 25th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
I’m not surprised, everyone has a blog nowadays.
EVERYONE
February 25th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
Ahh, Darjeeling. I think that’s what Shinku in Rozen Maiden used to drink. I never touch the stuff myself. That Persepolis comic looks familiar. I think I read it in Swedish at the local library. Not depressing at all! So I should go right back and read more Life on Forbez? Don’t mind if I do… I thought for sure that it wouldn’t update for another few months, so I filed it thusly in my bookmarks.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:20 am
I just bought an AeroPress. Read reviews and it’s supposed to make very good espresso-like coffee.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:55 am
I like the Moka Express and its ilk. Very tasty coffee, cheap unit (personally I think it’s worth spending a little bit more and getting one made of stainless steel). No filters or special coffee to buy or anything, if you can get ground coffee, water and a hotplate you’re good to go. Another plus is that you aren’t supposed to wash them :)
