Call me Snake

More movie sketches. Escape from New York - haven’t actually seen that one. Saw the sequel, or bits of it. Kinda cheesy.

Escape from New York (Special Edition)

Scientists create antimatter ray, holy shit

ImageThe emitter characteristics are outlined here in this computer simulation. Basically, the device uses an emitter plate to create positrons. The math behind how this works would baffle most post-graduate students. Basically though, a type of electrical and atomic condition is created within the plate which “encourages” the formation and expulsion of positrons. From there the positron trajectories are altered by fields which guide and direct the positrons into a unified beam. Without the encompassing field, the positrons would randomly collide with the device, likely consuming it in very short order.

“Baffle most graduate students”… I like that. Science!!

Another sketch, eh? Ah well, at least there’s no gender-bending mustache this time.

And *I* thought he was taller…

Sexy women cosplaying my favorite films. This is great!

I agree. And the second movie is of course a lot less fun to watch if you haven’t watched the first one so you can catch all the intended similarities and dissimilarities. I’d say that the first one is also a lot less cheesy, but maybe that’s just the nostalgia talking.

That positron beam is coolness. But “baffle most post-graduate students”? Bullshit. A grad student in physics who’s baffled by pair production better change programs, stat. Particle accelerators have been generating positron beams this way for decades — look up “Stanford Linear Collider”, for example. “Baffle most science journalists”, sure, but that’s like baffling your mama.

Disclaimer: I was a grad student in particle physics in another life.

Sean, sad to say, the whole point of getting into webcomics (or comics, anime, D&D, videogames, etc) is to lose the life you had… and you’ve clearly failed miserably. 20 lashes for you.

  7. CrazyDave Says:

Snake, you missed the point. It didn’t mention particle physics post grads. Just post grads in general. I’m fairly sure the maths behind it would be somewhat befuddling for some one who read Arts History.

Yeah, E = MC^2 is a doddle, but the maths behind actual practical particle physics is non trivial.

Disclaimer: I was a Physics grad, who took a course in particle physics.

Wait, does that mean we have a lazor that makes matter of every variety explode now?
